Our Mission
to produce eco-friendly, cost-effective, alternative fuel systems that exceed our customers’ expectations in quality, safety and functionality. A-1 aims to provide our customers with unparalleled customer service to produce the highest level of overall customer satisfaction.
Since 1995, A-1 has specialized in the design, manufacturing, and installation of alternative fuel systems for light, medium, and heavy duty vehicles. A-1 offers fuel systems that operate on natural gas, propane, electric, hybrid electric and hydrogen.
Innovation: A-1's fuel systems are designed in-house by professional engineers using advanced CAD design tools. A-1's engineering team has over 40 years of combined experience in the alternative fuel industry and has custom designed hundreds of alternative fuel systems.
Quality: Over the last 30+ years A-1 has built one of the most experienced teams in the
alternative fuel industry. Our vast experience, high importance on safety, and demand for excellence has set the quality of our product apart from the competition. Both of A-1’s
facilities are Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier (QVM) certified, and A-1 is a NHTSA
intermediate modifier and final stage manufacturer.

With thousands of vehicles on the road, A-1 has built a reputation on reliability, innovation, and safety. Our First Call Policy allows customers access to a technician who will quickly diagnose any issues and assist in finding solutions.
Safety: Each and every one of A-1's systems is first and foremost designed and engineered to be safe and functional. As such, A-1's designs are created to meet or exceed applicable safety standards, including NFPA 52, NGV, DOT, FMVSS, SAE, and California Title 13 Codes and Regulations.

President & CEO
Mark Gilio
Mark's career in the alternative fuel industry started in the early 1980s when he engineered his first alternative fuel system. Since that time, Mark and his company (A-1) have designed and developed hundreds of alternative fuel systems for various fuel types. Mark’s extensive electrical and mechanical engineering background combined with his keen business sense has allowed him to build one of the longest standing and most successful businesses in the alternative fuel industry. Over the last 25+ years, Mark has established himself as a pioneer for innovation and a proponent for advancing alternative fuel adoption.

Josh Gilio
Over his 15+ year tenure at A-1, Josh has worked in essentially every position within the company. Josh was instrumental in A-1’s achievement of Ford QVM certification in 2011. In 2013, Josh spearheaded the opening of the Elkhart, IN facility. Josh also led the implementation of A-1’s new kitting department in 2019. Currently, Josh oversees all manufacturing, procurement, logistics, quality control, and service operations for the company. Josh received his bachelors degree in Business Administration from Fresno State.

Kevin Gilio
Kevin joined A-1 in June of 2021. Kevin’s background is in the financial services industry where he spent a combined 7 years with UBS Financial Services and Comerica Bank. Kevin held various positions throughout his tenure in banking including Vice President in the middle market lending space. Kevin has extensive experience building growing brand awareness and building cross-industry partnerships. Kevin currently sits on two boards: San Joaquin Valley Clean Cities Coalition and Project Clean Air. He serves as the Treasurer for both non-profits. Kevin received his bachelor’s degree in Business Finance from Santa Clara University. Kevin oversees all sales and financial operations at A-1 Alternative Fuel Systems.
Director of Warranty & Technical Support
Sonny Leal
Sonny has been a member of the A-1 team for 20+ years. Sonny’s background is in automotive repair, specifically automotive electrical systems. Sonny is an ASE master technician with a certification in alternative fuels. Sonny is also CSA certified and a certified fuel system inspector. Sonny has over 30 years of experience in the automotive repair industry and 20+ years of experience with alternative fuel vehicles. Sonny oversees all warranty, training, and technical support operations at A-1.
